Fjorn’s Notes

When I was just an undergraduate with a budding interesting in Norse studies, my mentor (Dr. Jennifer Knight) advised me to take detailed notes on all of the books and articles I read. In doing so, she said I’d have a collection of quotes and ideas to come back to when conducting research later on. It was extremely helpful in graduate school and writing my Master’s thesis. But now, instead of letting those notes collect dust, I’m offering them to Friends of the Hall—you!

I’m not charging for access to these resources. We’re in this together, so let’s support each other’s work and learning. Tips are appreciated, but not required. Please enjoy whatever you find!

I’ve has been studying history professionally since 2015, though, so some of my notes are actually in Word documents that I’ve since converted into PDFs for guests to download and/or use here in the Hall. A few of these documents, namely my notes on Njal’s Saga and Bloodtaking and Peacemaking, can exceed 80 pages.

I will likely do this even when I decide to read new books in the future (given their length), so please check back from time to time to see if something new has been added.

I’ve organized them by subject, namely Norse, Celtic and Medieval Studies.

Norse Studies

Irish and Celtic Studies

Medieval Studies
